The daughter of On The Buses actor Reg Varney has spoken of her gratitude to the people of Budleigh for the way in which her father’s centenary is being celebrated in the town.

The celebrations include an exhibition at Budleigh’s Fairlynch Musuem, and a charity tribute show at Budleigh Football Club in July.

Speaking on Exmouth’s Bay FM radio, Jeanne Marley said her father had spent some of the happiest days of his life during retirement in Budleigh.

“Most people think of him as just the comic actor of The Rag Trade and On the Buses,” she said. “But I’ve heard many comments from people who’ve visited the museum exhibition. They’ve been astonished to discover my father was a talented painter and started his career as a musician.”

Before the Buses is at Budleigh Football Club, at 7.30pm, on Friday, July 1, and Saturday, July 2. Tickets at £8, are available from Budleigh TIC (01395 445275) and Budleigh Football Club (01395 443850).

The show is raising funds for the British Heart Foundation, Children’s Hospice South West and Fairlynch Museum. The Reg Varney exhibition Our Little Clown is now on at the museum in Fore Street,
