Last chance to see Reg Varney in Budleigh

Visitors to Budleigh Salterton on Friday, December 9, will have a last chance to see the museum’s centenary exhibition, which pays tribute to former town resident and On The Buses star Reg Varney.
The museum closed at the end of October, but is re-opening for the town’s late-night shopping event, from 6pm to 8pm.
Mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer, with some of the trustees in Victorian costume. ‘Our Little Clown’, the much praised Reg Varney exhibition supported by The Mackintosh Foundation, traces the actor’s career, from his humble beginnings as a musician in London’s East End clubs to his international stardom as an entertainer on stage and screen, ending with his retirement in Budleigh.
Seven of the actor’s paintings have been on display at Fairlynch during the year and were recently auctioned, raising just over £3,000 for the Children’s Hospice South West charity.
The museum shop will be open, selling a variety of suitable Christmas gifts, including Reg Varney’s biography.
Half the profits from the book’s sales are being donated to the British Heart Foundation.
