EMCO Evita lookalike set to stun at Exmouth Pavilion

Exmouth Musical Theatre Company (EMCo) is now in the thick of rehearsals for its blockbuster autumn production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, which includes a gripping, true-life story and some classic Lloyd Webber songs, such as Oh What a Circus, Another Suitcase in Another Hall and, of course, Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.
Competition to play the lead role of Eva Peron was fierce, and casting proved to be difficult. It was only after Jo Killoran was cast as Eva that director Debra Butler noticed the striking similarities between the two of them when she stumbled across a picture of the young Evita in a biography of the legendary Argentine First Lady.
“Jo’s facial features – particularly her eyes and nose – are similar to the real Eva Peron,” said Debra. “Jo was cast because of her combined strengths as a singer, dancer and actor, and we were oblivious to her similarity to the real Eva. It’s an unexpected bonus when it comes to the production – which includes actual footage of the actress who went on to become the president’s wife and the people’s champion.”
Evita will be performed from Tuesday, November 22, to Saturday, November 26, at the Exmouth Pavilion. Tickets – £15 (standard), £17 (raised) and £5 (child) – are available on 01395 222477 or online at www.ledtickets.co.uk
