A local dance school - launched by a former Cranbrook resident - is expanding and is about to present its first show.
Set up in 2014, the Michaela Poulton School of Dance has increased from nine classes a week to 20 in Cranbrook and Rockbeare.
Now, with more than 100 pupils, the school’s staff has also been increased.
“We have our first show in May,” says the school’s principal, 26-year-old Michaela Poulton. “All of the parents, students and school are excited about it.”
Although the first show will be private – for parents and friends only – Michaela says that in time she hopes that future showcases will be open to the public.
As well as Michaela – who has danced professionally across the globe and featured in the closing ceremony of the London Olympics 2012 – the teaching staff now includes Miss Olivia, Miss Ellie and Miss Skye.
Michaela says that her school is expanding along with the local community.
“We are continuing to grow hand-in-hand with Cranbrook,” she said. “We have built an incredible bond, not only with families, but with both St Martin’s Primary School and Cranbrook Education Campus, which will continue to grow and develop.”
The school - which offers classes in ballet, jazz and lyrical or musical theatre - hopes to become more involved with local projects and charities. These include the Princes’ Trust, where Michaela is a young ambassador.
