Archant

The Colaton Raleigh Players have chosen a little-known, but hilarious panto for their 2017 production, writes Tricia Cotton.

Bluebeard, by Paul Reakes and directed by Chrissy Brimacombe, opens on Valentine’s Day and there is certainly romance in the air.

Flora Rockbottom hopes to live happily ever after with her beau, Robin Reliant, while her elder sister Ruby is also desperate to catch the man of her dreams – any man will do!

The sinister Baron Blue Beard has his eyes set on Flora, but his intentions are far from honourable as he invites her, accompanied by sister Ruby and their father Eli, to stay as his guests.

The gallant Robin sets out to rescue his beloved, assisted by the clumsy pair Fetch and Carrie, and they soon become involved in a chaotic, hilarious pursuit, pitting their wits against the baron’s dim-witted manservant Lurkin, who also hopes to find love in the arms of the devious saucy maid Maria.

Full of fun and wonderful music, Bluebeard promises to be a great half-term treat for all the family.

It runs from Tuesday, February 14, until Saturday, February 18, in Colaton Raleigh Village Hall. Evening performaances are at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. For tickets, call David Wood on 01395 562951.
