Archant

The Woodbury Park Acorns Pairs Salver was played for in reasonable weather conditions and the winners by a considerable margin were Phillip Corcos and Adrian Bromfield with 51, writes John Bridgman.

Roger Spurling and Rodney Elston were second, but a great distance off the winning pair with their score of 39.

Third place went to Derek Knibb and Gary Wilson with 30. Over on the big course, Richard Wallace took the honours with a nett 70 in the Midweek Medal and a better back nine, from Ashley Hawkins in second place. Captain Peter Baldwin was third with 71.

Away at East Devon, the Woodbury Park team of Roy Barber, Ken Vine, Gregor Crum, Andrzej Sobczak, Dave Freeman and Ken Todd won the Pheasant Challenge by three points, scoring 169.

And so to our annual fun day brought about by the greenkeepers with a little devilment and cunning pin placements.

Paul Crafer was the outright winner with 35 points and a better back nine from Lewis Thorpe, in second place.

He also had a better back nine from, in third place, Paul Grocock who also scored 35. A diminished group of senior chaps battled against ‘Hurricane Freeman and Typhoon Leonard’ with Sid Par in tow. The trio swept all before them with their score of 69 points.

Next were Doug Budgen, Trevor Eardley and Chris Wright, who blew in with 66. Derek Knight, Alan Snow and John Man breezed home into third place with a better back nine and 63 points.

Only time will tell if much golf will be played as the winter months encroach up here on the common.

So, will it be you? Or will you be one of the maybes, only you can answer that.

Happy whacking. Cheers John.
