Friday golf seems to be regularly affected by the weather of late and last week was no exception with fog being the culprit this time, writes Hugh Dorliac.
When play got under way in the Friday Stableford it was the later players that had the best of it and the eventual winner was David Pepperell, coming in with 35 points. The runners-up were Lee Barber on 33 and Peter Hayman on 31.
Saturday saw the second round of the Streatham Trophy take place. Better weather greeted the playing pairs and some good results were forthcoming.
The best of the bunch were Harrison Jones and Jeremy Holden, who recorded an excellent 45 points, nine better than par. Second were John Barnard and Lester Willmington on 43 with senior duo John White and Tony Stoyle on 42.
Jones and Holden are in joint lead accumulatively on 82 with Mylne and Davis and White and Stoyle. First round winners, Trevor Kerridge and Allan Malcolm, on 78, have work to do to retain their title now.
The Sunday Winter League format this week was a three-man team medal, one to count, and it produced some very good scores in sunny conditions.
Matt Bavington, Jerry Russell and Jonathan Lee stormed it with a 14 under par 52. Closest rivals were Dave Richards and Geoff Lory with David Pepperell on 58. Lawrence Hill, Stuart Coles and Kym White came third on 61.
Joint individual league leaders are now Graham Davies and Jonathan Lee on 10 points with Kym White in third on eight.
The Monday Stableford this week was won by Howard Cushing on 35 points with a super back nine score of 20.
Steve Crabb took second also with 35, but losing on countback with a lower back nine.
Geoff Lory continued his successful weekend with third on 34. In the Seniors Eclectic, John Billingsley scored a win with 40 points in Division One with Bob Winstone winning Division Two with 36 points.
