Last Wednesday afternoon Sidmouth played their final league fixture in the Devon Interclub Over-60s League, writes Ken Wheeler.
Our opponents on this occasion were ISCA, who are based in Exeter.
With ISCA being one of the biggest indoor clubs in Devon with a membership treble that of Sidmouth, we always knew this would be a tough game and so it proved!
Although Sidmouth fought hard we eventually lost on all four rinks with the final score being 53-107.
The good news is that, despite accruing no points from this match, Sidmouth remain in fourth place in the league table.
Although much depends on how results go in games yet to be played, it seems we have a very good chance of holding on to fourth spot and therefore qualifying for the quarter-final (knock-out) stages of his competition.
On Saturday, we played ISCA again, this time in the County Trophy. This competition is one that is open to all indoor clubs in Devon and is played on a knockout basis with two rinks being played at home and two being played simultaneously away.
The winning team is the one that scores the highest number of shots overall.
The two Sidmouth home teams managed to hold their own for a long period, but the two away teams both started badly and never really got to grips with the longer and faster rinks at ISCA.
However, a whitewash was avoided on this occasion with the rink of Ray Tallent, Ray Gray, David Butler and skip Chris Nappin achieving a fine, hard-fought, 17-14 victory.
