Sidmouth Friday Stableford success for Richard Seaver
PUBLISHED: 10:47 02 March 2019
Last Friday the weather was again fine and a good field of players competed for the Friday Stableford throughout the day, writes Hugh Dorliac.
Richard Seaver was first past the winning post with a steady, but modest 38 points. Enough to beat Andy Pryke, 37, and Graham Davies, 36, into the minor places though.
The last Streatham Trophy heat was played out on Saturday with some excellent betterball scores being carded.
Taking the day were John Barnard and Lester Willmington with a solid 43, followed by Tony Stoyle and partner John White, taking second on countback with 42 from third place pair Paul Renken and Will Hastie.
The format of best two scores from three over the series means that the top pairing, Harrison Jones with Jeremy Holden, will go out last on finals day on March 30, alongside second placed pair of Barnard and Willmington.
The latest Sunday Winter League competition was a medal, two to count from three. This week the leaderboard was headed by the team of Geoff Lory, Ray Gunston and Lee Barber, posting a score of 124 net and earning them five points each in the league table.
In second were Adrian Priest, Lee Wenham and Dave Richards on 127, followed by Vernon Ruffle and his partners, Jim Anderton and Matt Bavington, on 128.
With four more weeks to go, the league table is headed by Jonathan Lee (fifth this week) with 34 points.
Matt Bavington on 29 and Geoff Lory on 25 are close behind and hoping Jonathan will take another sun break to Spain to give them a chance to catch him up.
Finally, the Monday Stableford saw Mark Thomas scoring an unassailable 42 points, including five twos to win top prize from his nearest competition of J P Lee and David Cowler on 39 points apiece.
This fine weather obviously agrees with Mr Thomas and he and all the golfers hope this unseasonal weather will continue for a good while longer yet.
