Tomorow (May 23) would have been matchday four of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League campaign with action for all three of the Sidmouth CC senior teams.

However, with the Coronavirus pandemic on-going there’s no chance of any cricket before at the earliest, July 1.

On the corresponding weekend last season there was mixed fortunes for the three teams with two successes and one defeat.

The loss was suffered by the 1st XI who went down to a Heathcoat side that would end the season as champions.

Batting first, Sidmouth laboured their way to a close of 215-9 with Alex Barrow’s 52 the top contribution. Other runs came from Zak Bess (32), Byron Knowles (31) and Will Murray (34).

Heathcoat lost just four wickets in a successful run chase and Zac Bess (3-33) got most of them.

Sidmouth 2nd XI were also in action against Heathcoat opposition and they defeated the Knightshayes 2nd XI in a compellingly close encounter that went down to the final over.

Heathcoat batted first and closed on an imposing 264-4.

Matt Parker, Jash Patidar and Daley Holmes each picked up a wicket for Sidmouth.

In the reply, an 87-run fourth wicket partnership between Anthony Griffiths (63) and Thomas Moore (58) plus a knock of 32 from Elliott Rice seemed to have Sidmouth on their way.

However, it was the late order batsmen Tom Wainwright and Matt Parker who saw them over the line with Wainwright scoring 22 from 18 balls and Parker eight from four as a three-wicket victory was sealed with two balls to spare!

Sidmouth III XI were in action at Bradninch where they defeated the home side by seven wickets.

It was Ed Hurley who served up the match-winning performance as he first took 4-26 with the ball and then struck a hard-hitting run-a-ball 67 to see his side to victory.

Bradninch, batting first, were bowled out for 151 with third change Charlie Dibble claiming figures of 3-27 in support of those four wickets from Hurley.

Hurley then took centre stage with the bat and got good support from Dylan Hurst (39) as the Fortfield men wrapped up victory inside 25 overs.
