Clyst St George are just 23 points away from sealing the Tolchards Devon League D Division East title after a 12th success in 15 outings, this one a 52-run win at Feniton.

After winning the toss, the home skipper asked Clyst to bat first and their innings was launched by Chris Ferro and prolific run scorer Sam Read.

However, when on 10, Read edged the ball into the hands of the wicketkeeper to leave his side on 11-1. Dan Kendall joined Ferro and the pair saw the score into three figures before Kendall fell for 42.

The rest of the innings centred around Ferro who carried his bat and trooped off at the interval with an unbeaten 77.

Kendall's knock apart, the best of the rest were knocks of 30 from Andrew Donovan and an unbeaten 320 from Joe Farmer as Clyst St George closed on 204-6 from their 45 overs.

Feniton had made their way to 38 when Andrew Donovan struck and, thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals and, at one stage, the home side were 114-9, before their last pair took the score to 152 when Steve Bourke claimed the final wicket.

The star of the show in terms of the Clyst bowling effort was Sam Read, underlining his all-round pedigree as he returned figures of 4-21 from nine overs.

Inder Singh (3-33), Andrew Donovan (1-22) and Steve Bourke (1-30) were the other wicket takers.

On Saturday (August 17), Clyst entertain Kentisbeare who are one of the three teams to have beaten them this season, and victory will not only be sweet revenge for the four wicket loss they suffered in June, but will also kick start the promotion party.

Sam Read's four wicket haul in the win at Feniton means the Clyst St George all-rounder has now scored over 1,000 runs and claimed 20 wickets this season.

His current bowling return for the season is 20 wickets at an average of 17.05 and his economy rate is 3.75.

His batting sees him on 1,024 runs for the season, though he has been displaced as the league's leading run scorer with Premier Division Plymouth's overseas star Faizan Riaz now on 1.050. Read is currently averaging 78.77 with the bat having hit two 50s and six centuries so far this season.
