Brixington Blues Under-12s completed their pre-season matches with a 2-1 success against a Stoke Hill side they will meet again this coming Saturday when the new youth league campaign begins.

In a bright start to the game, Blues took a fifth minute lead when Ned O’Mahoney curled a sweet strike into the top corner of the net!

With their midfield in charge, Blues went in search of a second goal.

Harry Tooby, Josh Lawrence and Frank Shelton were involved in a move that ended with Harry Batten shooting just wide.

At the other end of the pitch, Oliver Dawkins marshalled the left flank well, frustrating the home strike force.

When Stoke Hill did get sight of goal, Blues glovesman Evan Clark saved well from a free-kick.

Tyler Westaway took over in goal for the second half and he also denied the home side while, at the other end, with Sonny Rowsell causing no end of problems, it was almost 2-0 with Vines being denied following an O’Mahoney corner.

Josh Lawrence then went close with a brace of well-struck efforts.

As the game became more open, Stoke Hill levelled things up following a goalmouth scramble.

However, that merely served to spark a terrific response from Blues who were quickly back onto the front foot.

Excellent play from Isaac Wykes found Josh Lawrence and, when he crossed, Vines saw his goal bound effort superbly saved.

It was no more than Blues deserved when, with the clock ticking down a superb left-wing raid by Dawkins ended with him finding O’Mahoney who provided a clinical finish to seal a 2-1 success.

Blues team: Evan Clark, Taylor Westaway, Frank Shelton, Harper Phillips, Ryan McCann, Oliver Dawkins, Harry Batten, Ned O’Mahoney, Harry Tooby, Josh Lawrence, Isaac Wykes, Ben Vines, Sonny Rowsell.
