Millwey Rise Football Club scribe Dick Sturch has put together another book and this one looks to be an excellent read.

Rhymes of Laughter is Dick’s latest offering and it is expected to be in Archway Bookshop, Axminster and the Paper Shop, Honiton, over the coming weeks.

Dick’s two previous books both sold in excess of 1,000 copies.

He says: “I do think people will enjoy reading this one.”

Below is an extract from the book –

The brave Referee

A Referee arrived at Heaven’s Gate

Joining the queue he had to wait.

Until at last he’s called in through

For Heaven’s entry interview.

St Peter asked “Have you done anything good?”

“Nothing” he said “That I can think of.”

“Have you ever been brave?” St Peter enquired.

Then for a few seconds the Ref went quiet.

“I refereed the final of the Grandisson Cup

Feniton and Honiton my last game up.

In time that I added a forward was through,

Tripped in the box so my whistle I blew.”

“The Players went mad and the large crowd roared

When from the penalty - Feniton scored.

The Honiton fans were wild and incensed

And on revenge were all hell bent.”

“They poured on the pitch as I stood my ground

Waving and shouting at all around.”

St Peter was listening. Looking quite grave

Agreed with the Ref, he was certainly brave.

He then enquired “When did this happen?

“Ten minutes ago.” The Referee reckoned.
