In the ladies county pairs Jean Rainton and Penny Preece had a good win against a Sidmouth pair last week, writes Jean Healey.
Joy Penberthy, Deirdre Norman, and Jill Perrin scored 24-1 to go through in the County Triples and now face an ‘in-house’ derby as they face another team from Madeira in the next round.
A friendly men’s triples match against Ottery St Mary resulted in a good win for Madeira, who won on all rinks to secure a 61-33 overall success.
Ian Sowden, Colin Hughes, Danny Doran, stayed ahead the whole match winning by 13.
In the National Over-60s double rinks, Madeira B played South Hams the home team managed a draw, the away team lost by six shots and as this is a knockout they do not progress any further.
On Wednesday there were two friendlies, one home, one away, with mixed results, as the ladies triples went to Honiton to lose on all three rinks.
However, the mixed match at home resulted in the opposite, winning well on all three rinks 100-33, with the highest score by Vic Doidge’s team of Mike Ball, Brian Poulter, and Jenny Charles.
Unfortunately, two matches were cancelled this week with Exonia and Torquay United unable to send teams.
However, a ‘friendly’ match between the men’s captain and the ladies’ captain somehow resulted in a major win for the men – there is always next time, ladies!
The Winter Leagues are now underway with triples action for the men on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday; mixed fours on Friday and mixed pairs on Thursday.
There’s also ladies triples on Tuesday morning and that is always competitive and there is a new four-two-one scoring for the Wednesday triples which is proving interesting.
Coaching continues on Fridays from 4.30pm through to 6pm when instruction is available with equipment provided.
