Lympstone ABCs top seniors travelled to Launceston ABC on Saturday and came away with mixed fortunes, writes Neil Parsons.
Lewis Shaw (70kgs), featured in a return with Mohammed Manmood of Carls Boxing stable of Plymouth.
The pair had met the week before on the Exmouth Pavilion card when Plymouth boxer Gained a split decision, but this time the shoe was on the other foot as the Lympstone boxer realised he had to up his game and some strict words from coach Rob Cox saw him do just that keep on top for all three rounds although still a little lazy done enough to win all three rounds and a unanimous decision of the judges.
Shannon Whiley met the experienced Jordan Platt of the home club who was having the final bout of his career.
Whiley was on top for the first part of round one when a solid right hand shook Platt, but he weathered the storm and came back strongly to even the round.
The next two rounds were fought toe to toe with neither boxer giving ground and the judges awarding Platt what must have been a very close split decision and both boxers gaining the best bout of the night trophy.
This was Shannon’s third ‘Best Boxer of the Night’ trophy in his last three bouts.
