Honiton won a thrilling game at Kentisbeare where they had a 42-run unbroken ninth wicket partnership to seal them a two wicket win with one over of the days play remaining.

The Kentisbeare skipper won the toss and opted to bat but saw both openers returned to the pavilion without a run on the board!

Honiton skipper James Pickard and Corey lapping each hit the stumps with their first delivery and, when Lapping struck again, albeit with a leg before decision, the home side were 14-3. They recovered somewhat, but, on their small ground, a final score of 199 all out, looked to be well 'below par'.

For Honiton, Rob Ingram led the bowling honours with 3-42. Three bowlers reach bagged a brace; Corey Lapping (2-38), Ian Kelly (2-59) and James Pickard (2-23) and the other wicket was claimed by Craig Mudd.

The Honiton run chase got a fabulous start with openers Dave Haysom (57) and Andrew Lapping (68) putting on 108 for the first wicket. But thereafter wickets fell at regular interval and, with the reply wobbling on 163-8, it looked as if the home side would win the day! However, number seven bat Rob Ingram (22) was joined by number 10 bat Ian Kelly (17) and the pair put on 42 for the unbroken eighth wicket to see their side to a narrow, but richly deserved success.

The win, a second of the season for Honiton, sees them still in the bottom three, but they will exit those berths on Saturday (June 8) if they win at home to a Sandford 2nds side that sit immediately above them in the table.
