The weather was the big winner at Honiton Golf Club last week, writes Ann Desmoulins.

The ladies’ meeting was cancelled owing to a fog-bound course and the exceptional rainfall put paid to any hope the seniors had of any action.

The only action was had by the Tuesday Mixed group for which the format was a Rye Foursomes.

This is played like a Greensomes with both players teeing off and choosing the favoured ball.

However, prior to play, the partners must decide who will play the second shot on the odd holes, the other partner playing the second shot on the even holes, and then continuing to play alternate shots. In view of the very cold conditions it was decided to reduce the competition to 14 holes, hence the lower than normal scores. In first place, with 27 points, were Maureen Lawrence and Vaughan Whiteley. Second place went to Penny Blackburn and Bob Barnes with 24 points. They were closely followed by Sue Kelson and Cyril Dann with 23 points.

Having braved the cold conditions, everyone looked forward to hot food and drinks in the clubhouse, only to find that there was a power cut in the area!
