Honiton Under-9s Tigers powered their way to some big wins on their visit to Tiverton.

Of four matches played, the Tigers claimed victory in three of them.

They began with a 13-1 success with hat-tricks of tries from Alfie Pike, Josias Drew, and Olly Morris, together with other scores by Finley Backhouse (2), Charlie Rowland and Henry Devin.

Next up the hosts were beaten 9-1 and, in this game, Josia Drew led the scoring honours with four, Olly Morris and Henry Devin both bagged a brace and Charlie Rowland was also on the score sheet.

The third game saw Honiton edged out by the odd try in eleven with Harvey Hannay (2), Robert Hennessy, Ewan Powers-Maguire and Tom Phillips, the try scorers.

The final game saw Tigers land a 12-6 win with Ewan Powers-Maguire scoring five of the Tigers’ tries with the others to cross the Tivvy line being Tom Phillips (3), Robert Hennessy (2), Sam Manvell, Danny Chinolo.

A coach said: “The boys played superbly and one of the Tivvy coaches complemented our lads on their tackling, saying it was some of the best tackling he’s seen in this age group.”
