Exmouth Town manager Peter Buckingham is delighted for Kevin Hill now that he finally ‘gone home’ to take charge of his home-town club.
Budleigh Salterton announced the appointment of the former Torquay United star as their new manager and the Exmouth Town boss has revealed that Hill was torn between making an emotional return to Budleigh and spending at least one more season with the Southern Road club.
Buckingham said: “Kevin goes with my absolute blessing! Would I prefer he’d have stayed? Of course, that much is a no-brainer. I have so much respect for him. He really does handle things ever so well and have to say that he was an absolute gentleman in terms of making this move with regard to us here at Town.
“I know it was a teaser for him as I think he felt he had some unfinished business with us at Southern Road, and I certainly got the impression he liked what we are trying to do here at Town, but the lure of Budleigh, on this occasion, was simply too great.
“I completely respect Kevin’s thinking on this move and the decision he came to and can confidently say this is one of the most amicable partings in terms of a move to a neighbouring club; I think local football has seen!”
‘Bucksie’ continued: “I wish him all the best in his new role and I am sure he will be a huge success. Budleigh are in a spot of bother – lets say a type of football intensive care – but Kevin will quickly give them a whole new attitude and bring a breath of fresh air to all things Greenway Lane. Now is certainly the right time for him to make this move and I wish him well – apart from when ever Town face Budleigh in competitive action!”
