Four Exmouth Harriers were involved in the Chudleigh Carnival Road Race, writes Dave Eveleigh.

The race is run over a distance of around five-and-a-half miles and with plenty in the way of hills to negotiate!

Ray Elston was second over 65, but was rather short-changed by the lack of any category award for his actual age group which is Over 75! What was impressive as his time of 45:58.

Also running were Kelly Thomas (55th in 43:05), Rachael Logan (107th in 48:43) and Alison Milborrow (114th in 49:41), Kelly claiming third place in her Women Over 40 category. There were over 200 finishers.

Meanwhile, Exmouth Harrier Jim Palmer has been having some success over shorter distances. Last week at Yeovilton he finished 11th of 164 in 16:04 over 5km on the road, overall first being taken by second claim Exmouth Harrier Tom Merson in 14:58. A few days earlier (10 July) Jim won the 3,000m at the Devon Open Series event in Tavistock, recording a time of 9:21. Both of these performances put him in the UK Top 10 for his age group.

Richard Bishop, Brian Sansom and Cathy Newman travelled to North Wales for the Snowdon Mountain Race an up and back race which tests stamina and strength on the way up and needs an accurate awareness of your own agility as you decide how much of the descent to trust to gravity.

Over 500 lined up for the event last Sunday (17 July). Richard was 150th in 93:45, Brian 177th in 98:02 and Cathy 449th in 2:01:48.
