Exmouth Amateurs went down 6-1 on their visit to Beer and in doing so became the first team to lose to the Fishermen in the Macron League top flight this season.

The home side, roared on by a large partisan support, started with real intent. Ammies goalkeeper Brad Evans made a couple of outstanding saves before, in the 25th minute, Evans was finally beaten by a deflected shot.

It took Ammies just five minutes to level with Dan Tapp capitalising on a goalkeeping error to score.

Injury then hit Ammies with thigh strain victim Ben Maddison replaced by Matt Cousins, the latter making his return to action after an ankle injury.

There were no further goals in the first half, but all that changed early in the second period when Beer regained the lead following a neat passage of play.

Ammies gave their all in a concerted effort to get back on level terms, but the home defence, expertly marshalled by former Exeter City player Pat Baldwin, gave precious little away.

Three goals in a 12 minute spell from Beer ended any hopes Ammies had of a comeback and they added a sixth five minutes from time.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Williamson did very well on his debut, but Man of the Match went to Brad Evans for a couple of outstanding saves and the assist for the Ammies goal!

On Saturday (November 5) Ammies entertain Feniton at Warren View (2.15pm).
