Axmouth United put aside indifferent recent form to share the Macron League Division Three spoils with a visiting Lympstone side that had won all seven of its previous league and cup games this season, scoring 22 goals in the process.

The hosts started well and took a 17th minute lead with a Charlie Clarke penalty. They held the same advantage through to the break, this, despite losing their goalkeeper to injury 10 minutes before the interval.

In the second half United continued to dominate both possession and territory and it needed a superb save by the visiting glovesman to keep out an Asa Sandford shot that was heading for the top left hand corner, and near the end of the game he made another excellent save, this time to deny Cody Northcott’s free kick.

However, with just two minutes remaining United were pegged back via a header from a free-kick.

Although Axmouth were disappointed to let two points slip so near the end there were plenty of positives for them to take from a very good team performance. Axmouth’s man of the match was Jacob Clode.
