Archant

Chard and District Swimming Club were victorious in their third and final National Swimming League gala held at Weston-super-Mare, beating six other teams to ensure their survival in Division One, writes Paul Harrison.

Chard were seeded top for this gala, but were once again stretched, with many swimmers competing in multiple events to make up the numbers, but still maintained the competitive edge the team required to win.

All the swimmers put in a tremendous performance and coach June was immensely proud of the achievement. Many personal best swims in individual events as well as more in the relays was a great result at such a fast-paced competition.

Chard finished the gala with a total of 274 points, 15 clear of second placed Bath Dolphins on 259. The points total was tight at the top throughout the gala, this being reflected in the final result with the gap between Bath in second and Frome in fifth just 10 points.

Congratulations to all the swimmers taking part: Melissa Hanson, Paul Harrison, Millie Downes, Abi Greenslade, Grace Lambert, Briana Barrand, Jimmy Brett, Jevan Hampton-Rumbold, Louis Whittome, Freddie Coles, Xanthe Dyer, Megan Herbert, Harriet Copeman, Jamie Porter, Joss Copeman, Oliver Bright, Somer Horsfield, Jess Fowler, Ben Greenslade, Sam Platten, Simon Davis, Henry Taswell, Tessa Down, Hope Horsfield, Hannah Pullinger, Jamie Pullinger, Iain Ross, Joe Spurway, Leo Kindred, Oliver Rodger, Mollie Simpson.

A big thank you to all the helpers and especially Head Coach June for their time and commitment to the team.

We are a small, friendly club always looking for new talent from swimmers age seven upwards who would like to put the skills learnt in swimming classes into competition.
