Budleigh bowlers edge to success against Chardstock

In two mixed friendlies Budleigh this week won through on both, writes David Roberts.
At home to Chardstock, Tony Lim, Mo Bond, Peter Burch and skip Marilyn Jackson played well keeping the lead throughout to take their rink 24-12. Derek Stanley, Joan Cowing, Mike Shaw and Joan Shaw came up against a strong Chardstock rink losing 15-26, but overall Budleigh took the game by one bowl 39-38.
In the away match against Dawlish, the Budleigh bowlers were on good form winning overall by twenty shots.
Eileen Burston, Gerry Roberts and skip Dawn Graham took their game 24-11 with Ann Vincent, Di Dixon and Leighton Burston winning 17-10 .
A draw on the third rink saw Margaret Avery, Di Lowe and Peter Burch draw level on the last end 16-16.
The highlight of a ladies’ friendly home to Axminster was the rink of Anne Goddard, Ann Vincent, Di Lowe and skip Joan Shaw who won by ten shots 24-14, but the match was lost overall 45-34 as the Axminster ladies won on rink two by twenty-one shots.
The Coast Wealth Management Evening League featured two matches last week and they produced big wins for the Maderia Robins defeating the Budleigh Hawks 48-32 and for the Maderia Bluebirds winning through 38-25 against the Exonia Eagles.
The coming week sees the men in action against Mid Devon in the Interclub competition and a friendly match against Maderia. The Maderia Robins play the Maderia Bluebirds in the Evening league and the club make the trip to Honiton in a mixed friendly to complete the week.
