Budleigh beaten at Abbotskerswell in final away game

Budleigh are resigned to a bottom half finish in the Tolchards Devon League A Division after they went down by eight wickets on their visit to Abbotskerswell for their final away game of the league campaign.

Skipper Trevor Anning won the toss and opted to bat, but wickets fell at regular intervals with the final one falling in the 50th and final over with the total on 185.

It was number five bat Ed Doble who top scored – he also faced twice as many deliveries as any other Budleigh batsmen, 80, 0 on his way to scoring 35.

The ‘best of the rest’ was a knock of 20 from number nine bat Lloyd Murrin, who scored 20 while James Doble chipped in with 17. The Budleigh innings was bulked up by no fewer than 59 extras of which 32 were wides!

Abbotskerswell wrapped up a 10th win of the league term, losing just two wickets and getting home with just over 21 overs to spare!

In terms of the Budleigh bowling, the two to have any success were Phil Anning (1-38 from six overs) and Will Oxland, who was called into action as fourth change bowler, returned figures of 1-19 from three.

On Saturday (September 1), Budleigh bring the curtain down on their season with an Ottermouth game against Brixham.
