November has been a very special month for all involved with Axminster Gymnastics Club, writes Emma Rowe.

The first day of the month saw the club move into a new purpose-built facility at part of Axminster Carpets Outlet on Musbury Road.

Axminster mayor Jeremy Waldron opened the premises with a traditional ‘cutting of the ribbon’.

Over the past 20 months we have been running the club, it has grown to over 200 members and is now able to run classes six days a week.

It is of huge benefit to have all our equipment up all the time – especially as we are an artistic club that has bars, beam plus vault in all our sessions.

The move has allowed us to cater for a wider age range, with the introduction of classes for under three’s and indeed, additional groups for the ages of three to five.

What’s more, the club is now able to increase provision for the very popular school age classes.

In terms of recent competition news, club members have been doing very well. The first was the one held by Barnstaple-based Falcon’s Gymnastics Club. This event was a Halloween themed one and taking part for Axminster were the women’s artistic squad together with children aged five to 13 years. All children performed well and the team returned to East Devon with a number of medals and two overall first places.

The second competition was hosted by Fromeside Gymnastics Club and Axminster sent their intermediate competition groups who competed on floor and vault and every child attained a medal in this competition!

Axminster head coach Emma Rowe says: “What an amazing result showing how the children’s hard work pays off! We are hugely proud of every child at our club and we work together to achieve the best for each one.

“A big thank you must be given to coaches and judges too all of whom attend competitions for free and without them these achievements wouldn’t be possible.”
