The Axe Cliff men’s section played their Gees Bowl match and there was certainly a high standard of golf on show, writes Pete Motson.
To underline the quality of play comes there were seven players who returned cards with below par scores!
Chris Glover ultimately took the honours with a with a net 63 and second, with a net 66, was Jin Hong. Andrew Hellier was third with a net 67.
Four twos were recorded, scored by Dave Morgan, Alan Kenworthy, Simon Sweetland and, Paul Clode
The ladies section played a friendly four-ball better ball match play contest at Cricket St Thomas and a most enjoyable day was had by one all. Sadly the overall result went against the Axe Cliff ladies for the only winning pair for them were Pauline Willis and Jo Donmall.
Helen Kenworthy was in fine form when she contested the County Silver Championships, winning her handicap division and finishing sixth overall out of the 68 lady golfers taking part. Well done, Helen.
The ladies’ scheduled flag competition was postponed due to bad weather but, the missed action outdoors was exchanged for great fu indoors as all who had pitched up to play the competition, retired indoors to enjoy Caroline Bond’s ‘special’ birthday with a very tasty lunch in the clubhouse.
The seniors’ section held their Three Club Shield competition played with a stableford format. Phil Christmas took the honours with a respectable score of 33 points.
Second place went to A Bishop with 32 and third place was settled on countback with Tony Strong edging John Mant into fourth spot after both players scored 31 points.
