The first Salcombe Swim Run took place last weekend as part of the South West Outdoors Festival near Salcombe, writes Alan Morbey.

The event involved various night trail runs, bike orienteering competitions, talks by loads of inspiring speakers, slacklining, axe throwing, bands, etc.

Lou Tucker went along and took part in the short swim run course, consisting of a 600m sea swim from South Sands beach to North Sands followed by a 10k off road run with some of the most breathtaking views on the SW Coast path (apart from here obviously…)

It was a small field taking part in this first race and Lou thoroughly enjoyed the event, coming home as the second female overall and in first her age group in 1:21.

Hopefully the first of many swim run events!

● Chester - The World’s Best Marathon, according to the Chester town crier, took place last Sunday.

A fast, fairly flat course with few hills tempted many runners from all over the UK to try for a PB.

The course starts off by running through the historic city and past the old city walls before heading out into the country and over the border into Wales before returning and finishing at Chester Race Track.

Graham Newton joined the 2,000 other runners to take part and was very pleased to finish as third MV65 in a great time of 3:25:35.
