A WOMAN who died in a car crash on the A39 near Kilkhampton yesterday morning (Friday) has been named locally as Park Community School teacher Sara Bluett.

The graphics teacher was understood to be on her way to work in Barnstaple when her silver VW Polo collided with a Ford Maverick, at around 7.15am.

Miss Bluett, 46 from Bude, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Scores of tributes have already been left on Facebook tribute page called R.I.P MISS BLUETT. Many spoke of happy memories with the inspirational and much-loved teacher who was a role model to many of her students.

The male driver of the Ford, who is understood to be in his early 40s and is from the Bideford area, was initially trapped and had to be freed by fire crews.

He was air-lifted to Derriford hospital in Plymouth, where he is said to be stable and not thought to have life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred two miles from Kilkhampton in the Bideford direction, with reports that both vehicles had ended up in a ditch, the van almost turning over.

Officers from the serious collisions investigation team have started a detailed investigation and police are keen to hear from anyone who recalls seeing the silver VW Polo travelling on the A39 towards Bideford.

The road was closed for much of the day, reopening at around 5pm.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote log 130 of 22 March 2013.
