Pupils' summer chicken stew is the judges favourite dish

A tasty summer chicken stew created by pupils at All Saints School, has been voted the winning dish in the Go Local Cooking Challenge.

The contest, run by Axminster-based healthy eating charity HALFF, invited four local primary schools including those at Axminster and Shute, to design a healthy one pot dish.

The brief was that it should be suitable for a family and include as many locally produced ingredients as possible.

A team of judges, including local chef Gill Meller and nutritionist, Becky Varley, were then tasked to choose one winning recipe.

Year 5 and 6 children at All Saints won the top prize of a £60 Co-op voucher to buy cooking equipment for the school. Shute were runners up.

Chef Gill Meller cooked and served the winning dish at Axminster’s Big Dinner on Friday.
