Lyme students perform 'The Owl and the Pussycat"

Year 7 students entertain parents and carers at the annual Meet the Tutor evening.

Woodroffe School’s new Year 7 students entertained parents and carers at the Lyme school’s annual Meet My Tutor event.

Using ensemble theatre and choral speaking, the drama club presented their version of ‘The Owl and the Pussy Cat’ by Edward Lear under the direction of Anne Cruwys-Finnigan, head of drama.

This was followed by musical pieces directed by head of music, Jon Cullimore.

Jonathan Galvin-Mayes performed a trombone solo of Brahms’ Lullaby, Noah Scott-Sentance gave a guitar solo of his own composition, Tranquility and Oriel Chapman performed a vocal solo of Down, by Jason Walker.

The evening ended with the whole Year group singing rousing renditions of Stand By Me by Ben E King and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman, by Pasek and Paul.

The cast of ‘The Owl and the Pussy Cat’ was Abigail Morrissey, Amber Geyser-Wilcox, Bella Markham, Bella Powell, Bethany Tattershall, Bobby Burke, Celeste Shields, Daisy Browning, Daisy Weldin, Darci Street, Eden Betteridge, Edie Noble-Dowling, Eleanor Bulpin, Eva Mohammed Joyce , Eva Ralph, Eve Collins, Felix Ford, Finn Clark, Henry Birchall, Iona Oldfield, Jayda Sealey, Kenzie Mills, Livvy Loveridge, Lola Evans, Lotte Thorp, Madeline Wallace-Wallis, Maeve Wright, Maisy McCollum, Maja Palka, Max Perner, Millie Ashford, Millie Carswell, Oriel Chapman, Oscar Newall, Oscar Tunbridge, Peggy Ivins, Poppy Dyer, Rachel Pollard, Romany Demkiw, Ruby Blandamer, Samual Stuckey, Scarlett Knivett, Sophie Vernon and Tom Aspinall.

Ms Cruwys-Finnigan said, “I would like to say a very big thank you to eight of my year 10 GCSE Drama students who helped me and worked so well with the year 7, Amber Aldridge, Aleena Barker, Orla Hankin, Sam Harris, Ellyn Kendall, Imogen Knivett, Tom Miller and Robert Wolfreys, also, Charlotte Thompson in year 13. With such a large number of year 7 wanting to take part I really could not have done it without my fantastic assistants.”

The winners of Woodroffe’s annual photography competition received their prizes of gift vouchers at assembly last week.

The shots, taken during the geography department visit to Dartmoor and the brief was to capture the essence of the moor. Winners were Anya, Louis and Teganne.
