Popular pub’s hanging baskets are the toast of the town

Floral displays outside Axminster’s Red Lion pub are the toast of the town.

The popular inn has been voted winner of the Rotary Club’s annual hanging basket competition.

A spokesman said: “Visitors and residents alike will have noticed that Axminster has been looking particularly decorative this summer with attractive floral arrangements around the town.

“Both the local council car parks in the centre of the town and the National Car Park greet visitors with very colourful blooms which have complemented the fine seasonal weather this year.

“As in previous years finding an outright winner for 2018 was no easy task but the basket that most caught the judges’ eye was outside The Red Lion Inn in Lyme Street.”

Landlord Andrew Bedwell said that he and his wife, Tara, were delighted to win the competition as a lot of energy went into keeping the baskets fresh for the season particularly this year with the dry summer.
