Flood water continues to cause traffic problems around Exmouth

Torrential downpours from yesterday are continuing to have an affect on the roads surrounding Exmouth.

Bridge Road, in Topsham, was closed at Elm Grove Road this morning due to flood water.

This has caused traffic problems through Topsham and on the A376 Exmouth to Exeter Road near the George and Dragon Pub.

It has been reported that it has taken some motorists as much as an hour and a half to get between Exmouth and the Topsham roundabout.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highway management and flood prevention, said: “Road users are advised to take extra care, stick to main roads where possible, not to drive through floodwater and not to drive through road closures.

“We are targeting safety issues in locations where there are problems which may affect properties and businesses.

“We are also prioritising the main A and B roads on our primary network and are proactively dealing with areas where there are known issues.”
