A 22-year-old man from Exmouth who sent sexts - explicit texts - to an underage girl, has been handed a suspended jail sentence and ordered to attend a sex offenders’ programme and rehabilitation by a judge at Exeter Crown Court

A 22-year-old man from Exmouth who persuaded a 14-year-old girl to send him a photo of her breasts has been sent on a sex offenders’ treatment programme.

Karma Uchiha, from Withycombe Raleigh, met the teenager through social media and started sending her highly sexualised messages on the Kik app.

He sent her a series of images and a video showing him playing with his genitals and encouraged her to reciprocate, Exeter Crown Court was told.

Uchiha, of Phear Avenue Exmouth, admitted inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and four offences of causing a child to watch images of sexual activity.

He was jailed for 18 months, suspended for two years, ordered to attend a sex offenders’ programme and attend 15 days rehabilitation activities with the probation service by Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC.

The judge also ordered him to sign on a sex offenders’ register and made a sexual harm prevention order which restricts his contact to girls under 16 and allows the police to monitor his online activity.

He told Uchiha: “Your contact with this 14-year-old girl amounted to serious criminal offences. What you did may have caused untold damage to her and has caused enormous distress to her family. They must be furious.

“This all happened 14 months ago and there is no suggestion of any further offending. It is clear you have already taken steps to address what underlies this and are fully prepared to engage further with probation.

“I have read a lot about your personality and I am sure you are immature for your age. This sort of conduct has to stop now. It must not happen again. The interest of the public is better served by you going on a course rather than going to prison.”

Miss Bathsheba Cassel, prosecuting, said the girl’s mother called the police after finding sexualised conversations on her phone in May last year.

The girl told police the online conversation started on Facebook and moved on to Kik messenger and she sent him an image of her breasts.

Miss Cassel: “Over two days there was discussion about photographing of body parts. In her case she sent him a photograph of her breasts, and he sent photographs and a video of his erect penis and him masturbating.”

He told police he had been really stupid and had deleted the Kik app after realising he had made a big mistake.

Miss Julie Brassington, defending, said Uchiha is not working currently because he acts as a carer for a member of his family.

She said he sought counselling voluntarily after his arrest and is being treated for depression and anxiety.
