Police appeal after victim’s bag is snatched

An elderly woman was attacked in Axminster and her handbag stolen.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft which took place near the junction of Chard Road and Millbrook Dale between 12noon and 12.15 on Thursday, March 11,

The woman’s handbag, which was snatched form her hand, was recovered a short time later hidden in bushes on the footpath leading to the Cherry Tree Road estate from the mini roundabout at the junction of Stony Lane and Chard Road.

It was found wrapped in a black ‘Helly Hansen’ zip up jacket with a distinctive blue written logo running down the left sleeve.

It is believed that the offender had been wearing the jacket when the offence was committed.

If anyone saw a person running near to the Chard Road/Millbrook Dale/Stony Lane junction they are asked to contact PC Kevin Bennett on 101, quoting crime reference CR/015512/16.
