Firefighters rescued a teenager trapped in a lift shaft at a public building at Kingsley Road, Bideford, yesterday afternoon (Monday, August 27).

Two fire crews were sent to the scene at around 2.40pm, along with a specialist rescue team.

They found a 14-year-old boy stuck on top of the lift, although he was not injured or in distress. Crews ensured that power to the lift was isolated before starting efforts to lower it.

Working with the lift engineer they used a triple extension ladder, small tools and specialist working-at-height rope to release the teenager who was unharmed.
