Friday walking group raises £30,000 for the flying medics
Keeping their feet firmly on the ground has helped an Axe Valley group raise more than £30,000 for the Devon Air Ambulance.
Known as The Friday Walkers the band of happy hikers have been striding out each week, for the past 25 years, walking a different route around East Devon or West Dorset.
Each walker pays £1 each time they turn out which is donated to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. They also raise money by holding social events and when there is a fair amount collected, the Friday Walkers make a donation to DAAT collector, Don Hansford.
During the past quarter of a century they have raised and donated £30,000 to the flying medics.
Last year it cost £6.4 million to run the air ambulance service. In addition, DAAT needs to raise around £1m more to build capital funds in order to ensure it can replace its aircraft after ten years’ service and to meet significant maintenance and repair costs, plus ambitious plans to extend our operating hours.
