Author updates best-selling book of town history.

AUTHOR Avril Stone will be signing copies of the Diamond Jubilee edition of her best-selling title, The Book of Barnstaple – Memories of a Coastal Market Town on Saturday.

The book, first published in 2002, was written after months of interviewing local people and collecting photographs that together create a unique and fascinating tale of 20th century life in her home town.

A new section has now been added to bring the story up to date.

“The additional pages record the changing face of Barnstaple”, said Avril.

“Nostalgia is there, too, in that they also follow the fortunes of familiar local firms.

“The revamped Square that’s now a centre for local events, our theatre’s own Diamond Jubilee alongside the town’s celebrations, our relief that we’re no longer ‘home of the traffic jam’ . . . so much has happened in the past decade.”

Avril will be at WH Smiths in the High Street between 11am and 1pm.
