The Bicton Inn is holding a special 10-day beer festival to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its landlord – Alison Brockbank – taking over the running of the pub on Exmouth’s Bicton Street.

The festival – which starts today (Friday, January 29) and runs until Sunday, February 7 – features no less than 25 real ales, one for each year, sourced from around the UK, but mostly from local breweries.

It also includes live entertainment from many local musicians and bands throughout the festival period.

Although there have been many changes – including substantial refurbishment and redecoration in 2015 – Alison says she has maintained The Bicton’s traditional community feel, where customers enjoy lively chat, games such as euchre, pool and darts and live musical entertainment, several times a week.

The entertainment begins at 9.30pm this evening (Friday, January 29) with popular, humorous duo Los No Bos. The pair, who write all their own songs, cover a plethora of musical genres.

Guy Somerfield and Friends pop in at 5pm on Saturday, January 30. Guy will perform a mix of folk, rock and pop ballads together with some of his own songs. At 9pm, there’s Northern soul with DJ Ray.

Folk musician Becky Brooks appears on Sunday, January 31, at 3pm. She’ll be performing a selection of popular songs, including traditional folk, country and contemporary.

There’s a rare visit to The Bicton for The Exmouth Shanty Men (pictured) on Tuesday, February 2, at 8pm. A chance to see Devon’s ‘original buoy band’ in an intimate setting, it’s likely to be a busy night.

On Thursday, February 4, there’s a Bicton Open Music Session, starting at 8.30pm. All musicians welcome. Bicton Street Blues – comprising ex-Laughing Gravy’s David Gwilliam and multi-instrumentalist Olly Davy – appear at 9pm on Friday, February 5, performing a selection of raunchy blues.

Other festival acts include The Shelly Beach Boys (9pm, Saturday, February 6) and The Peaceful Hooligan (3pm, Sunday, February 7).
