Town plans packed programme of events to welcome shoppers.

CHRISTMAS entertainment in Barnstaple doesn’t end with a performance by ‘Queen of British Soul’ Beverley Knight – oh no!

Tonight’s headline performance by the soul superstar kicks off a four-week programme of events to add a sparkle to seasonal shopping in the town.

Barnstaple Town Centre Management and BID Barnstaple have pulled out all the stops once more to ensure that Barnstaple is a premier destination for Christmas shoppers from far and wide.

The town boast more than 60 quality stores filled with gift ideas. And it’s not just the High Street – check out Boutport Street, Joy Street, Market Street, Tuly Street, Cross Street, Bear Street, Queen Street, Holland Walk and Gammon Walk too.

Thursday, November 22: Immediately following the Christmas light switch on, head to the High Street and Pannier Market for street entertainers and live music by iFunk.

Sunday, November 25: North Devon Classic Car Show in Barnstaple Pannier Market.

Thursday, November 29: Late night shopping with free high-flying skills demonstration by mountain bike trials athlete Andrei Burton in the Pannier Market.

Juggling and street entertainer by Matt Lemon in the High Street, plus Christmas carols by the Barnstaple Rotary carol singers.

Saturday, December 1: Seasonal tunes in the High Street with the Salvation Army Band.

Sunday, December 2: Festive tunes and Christmas carols with South Molton Town Band and Barnstaple Youth Marching Band.

Thursday, December 6: Late night shopping featuring Barnstaple Town Council’s Christmas Fayre in the Pannier Market. Traditional carols, crafts, gifts and plenty of entertainment for all the family from 6.30pm. Meet Father Christmas and enjoy a unique blend of comedy, acrobatics and juggling courtesy of Jones and Barnard.

Friday, December 7: Christmas songs and carols in the High Street with Yeo Valley Primary School and Go North Devon Band.

Saturday, December 8: Barnstaple Concert Band playing in the High Street.

Sunday, December 9: The North Devon Hospice Santa Fun Run plus festive music by South Molton Town Band and Barnstaple Youth Marching Band in the High Street.

Thursday, December 13: Late night shopping featuring West Buckland School Orchestra in the Pannier Market. Watch out also for the Christmas Elves and street entertainment by Matt Lemon.

Saturday, December 15: Barnstaple Concert Band and the Tarka Pipe Band playing in the High Street.

Sunday, December 16: Festive favourites with Barnstaple Youth Marching Band and South Molton Town Band.

Thursday, December 20: Late night shopping featuring madcap nun, Musical Ruth, back by popular demand. Barnstaple Rotary Club members will be singing carols in the High Street.

Saturday, December 22: Carols in the High Street with the Salvation Army Band.

Sunday, December 23: Festive music with South Molton Town Band and Barnstaple Town Marching Band.

Monday, December 24: Carols by South Molton Town Band.
