Some local men are helping raise money for a vital new well in an arid plot in The Gambia.

Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir are singing at a concert in Tower Street Methodist Church, Exmouth, on Saturday, November 10, at 7.30pm to help Woodbury Salterton-Dumbutu Link (WSDL) in their efforts to improve the lives of the villagers in Dumbutu in West Africa.

During 2012, WSDL have sent money for goat-proof fencing for the vegetable plot, and paid for 90 women to be trained in new methods of horticulture with seeds that better resist climate change. But the well from which they water their plants is old and hardly functioning. Women have to haul skins full of water from huge depths and the inner walls are damaged.

Tickets for the concert are available on the door or from Leo Wilson on 01395 268820. Email for more information from wilson.email@tesco.net
