Archant

There was no action for both the Woodbury teams owing to the weather.

The First team where due at University 4ths in Exeter but a wet pitch made it impossible to mark out and the game was called off at 10.30am.

It was the decision of the appointed referee to call off the Reserves’ game even though the Endurance Park groundsman had given the go ahead the afternoon before for the Fresha League meeting to proceed!

Off the pitch and Woodbury boss Adam Reid is hopeful of naming his new assistant after much searching for the right person to take over the superb job done by Dave Mills who remains involved with the Woods, but has insufficient time to be able to throw himself into the assistant manager’s post. Reid is close to naming the new man, but until it’s signed and sealed the club is remaining tight lipped as to his, or her, identity.

With no game of their own some of the Woodbury players and the manager went to watch their next opponents Axmouth United who were involved in one of the ten Fresha League games to beat the weather.

Reid saw Exmouth Town win comfortably, but that did not stop the Woods boss saying: “Axmouth certainly didn’t turn up for the game, that’s for sure. However, just because they got turned over doesn’t make them a bad team. I thought Exmouth played very well and we must be careful that Axmouth don’t dust themselves down and come out with renewed vigour in the same way Town did after we beat them the week before. We know Axmouth are not a bad side and must prepare accordingly.”

Woodbury now eagerly awaits the league’s decision on Alex Hughes after the prolific marksman signed two Fresha Devon and Exeter League forms in the pre-season.

The Woods are keen to emphasise that the double signing was a complete over sight by Hughes and, after he had signed for Newtown he asked the Exeter side not to put the form in. However, it do go in, as did his form for Woodbury!

Since the season began Hughes has only played for the Woods and not once for Newtown, but there are rules covering registrations and the club may find themselves in hot water! A decision on the matter is excepted by the weekend.

On exciting piece of Woodbury news is that the club is looking at the viability of running a third eleven next season.

The idea is very much in its infancy, however, merely going public with the idea underlines just how progressive the Woods are as they look to build for the future.
