Wonderful Walsh stars as Feniton U18s share four goals with Newton Abbot

In what was a wonderful advert for U18 football, unbeaten sides Feniton and Newton Abbot shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Feniton’s Acland Park.

Feniton almost took the lead around the 10 minute mark when livewire forward Renz Farnican slipped his marker and was unlucky to see his shot cleared off the line.

Newton Abbot with the benefit of playing downhill started to exert pressure on a Feniton back line yet to concede and despite the best efforts of the again excellent goalkeeper Tom Pryke he was beaten on the half hour mark by an own goal after an unlucky ricochet to give the away team a fortunate lead.

The heads of this Feniton group though didn’t drop and they got their reward and in some style. A free kick some 25-yards out and from the angle of the penalty box was dispatched into the top corner by Oscar Walsh just before the half time whistle to level up the match at 1-1.

The second half was all Feniton and much of the good work came from the central midfield three in particular from debutant and Devon U18 player Ashley Mitchell.

The Honiton Town first teamer showed his class throughout and was very unlucky to see a number of efforts off target.

Completely against the run of play Newton Abbot looked like they had pulled off the ultimate smash and grab when a deflected shot gave them an undeserved 2-1 lead in the 80th minute.

However, Feniton levelled matters once more two minutes later with a poacher’s effort from striker Alex Cole after Walsh’s shot proved too hot for the opposition glovesman.

Despite hitting the post and having a goal bound shot kicked off the line Feniton had to settle in the end for a 2-2 draw and remain unbeaten.
