Sunday Stableford - Years ago I received some very good advice that has stood me in good stead. Always make sure your words are soft and sweet because one day you may have to eat them. This was the week that my words came back to haunt me, writes Andy Wagner.

Having played out of my skin last week my sudden mortality was apparent to all and I have to admit, after my hubris, to only scoring four Stableford points on my front nine holes! Some of those holes I was lucky to score nil they said!

Much better were the rounds from winner Sam Bowyer Thornton, 38pts, and Tim Welsh, 38pts. Captain Paul Dimond, who had to observe my discomfort, was third with 36pts.

●Tuesday Mixed - In the week of the American Elections we played the Format of American Foursomes. Like the election, the scores were very close. Winners with 36pts with 11pts on the back six were Rosemary Whiteley and Andy Sharland.

Following closely in second place also with 36pts with 10pts on the back six were Sue Ritchie and Stan Squire. Third and fourth places were again closely fought with third place going to lady captain Jackie Seager playing with Phil Wall with 35pts, 16pts on the back 9 and fourth place also 35pts but with 15pts on the back nine were Di Wall and Allan Seager. This month’s organisers were Sue and Paul Ritchie and lady captain Jackie presented the prizes.

Ladies Section - The ladies played a NQ medal this week and, though good scores were hard to come by, Tricia Swindell beat the field with a nett 74 coming first in Silver Division.

Anne Davies was pipped into second place with a nett 75. In Bronze 1 Division Janet Hughes was top with a nett 79, while 2nd, third and fourth places were hotly contended by three ladies all on nett 80, so on c/b Jenny Raison beat Jan Dickinson who beat Hilda Hoepelman.

Bronze 2 Division winner was Susan Hyde with nett 78, followed by Jean Moon in second with nett 79 and Margaret Jory in third with nett 87. The Breakthrough Brooch for the lowest overall nett was won by Tricia Swindell with nett 74.
