Exmouth cycle star Will Tidball has been chosen to represent Team GB at the Junior World Cycling Championships being held at Aigle Switzerland from August 15 to 19.

This honour has followed a season of calamity and crashes, but still the talented youngster from Exmouth has pulled through.

The Worlds in Aigle are Velodrome-based racing. Will has been chosen to represent GB in the team pursuit. This pinnacle event sees four riders take on four riders from a rival country in a timed head-to-head. The current world record is around 4:01. aThe track in Aigle is shorter and so lends itself to fast times. The junior world record for boys is 4:01 and is held by the Australians.

Will, who is no stranger to competition from his days at Exeter Aces cycle speedway, will be rider number one, which means he has the job of starting the team off. One mistake could lead to catastrophe!

He has also been chosen to represent GB individually in the ‘omnium’ race. He will race in four disciplines in one day. The Tempo, the Scratch The Elimination and Points race totals will be added to decide who is the best ‘overall’ cyclist in the world. This specialist event will see Will pit himself, his mind and body against the best in the world as he fights exhaustion in the hope he will achieve greatness.

This season Will has suffered a number of catastrophes. Recently in Lincolnshire his rear wheel was knocked out by a fellow competitor as they came together at 60mph!

Will controlled the bike without a wheel and held the slide on his back stays voiding a nasty crash and crossing the line running - bikeless!

Will’s bike was totally destroyed and it is hoped that Exmouth Cycles will put the parts on a new frame in readiness for the Junior Tour of Wales, which marks the season’s end.

Will recently attended the Junior Nationals and with his teammate Etan [STEVE - sp Ethan?] they won the Madison. Will also scored a personal best in the 1km Time Trial and a bronze medal in the Scratch race.

If you’d like to support Will in his quest to become a world champion then leave him a message on Facebook: Will Tidball1066 or donate £5 or £10 at his crowdfunder: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/manageprojects/core/will-tidball-1066-cyclist
