Super Saturday for Honiton RFC and FC as both teams win well

It was a super Saturday for both Honiton RFC and Honiton Town FC as both won their respective matches, but it’s defeat for Axminster Town, Seaton Town and Feniton.

Honiton Town made it three South West Peninsula League Eastern Division games without defeat with a 4-1 win on their visit to Budleigh Salterton.

Town Reserves lost their Macron League game at high-flying Thorverton 6-1, but the Town thirds were 2-1 home winners over Tedburn St Mary

Axminster Town went out of the Walter C Parsons Cup at the second round stage beaten 4-2 at Sidmouth Town. Pete Knox and Ben Turner netted for the Tigers

In other Macron League games, the Premier Division ‘derby’ at Beer ended in a 2-2 draw between the Fishermen and visiting Upottery. Feniton lost 5-4 in their home meeting with Topsham Town and Seaton Town were beaten 5-0 on their visit to table-topping Newtown. Axminster Town Reserves scored four times in their home meeting with Royal Oak – and still lost – the Exeter side scored six!

In Division Three, Axmouth United ended a disappointing recent run with a splendid 1-1 draw against high-flying Lympstone.

Also in Division Three, Beer Albion Reserves went down 2-0 at North Tawton.

In Division Four, Cranbrook were edged out by the odd goal in three by visiting Bampton Reserves.

In Division Five, Dunkeswell Rovers were 3-0 home winners over Starcross Generals, completing a swift seven days double over the Generals. Upottery Reserves march on after a 7-0 Glebe Park win over Culm United.

In Division Six there were 6-1 defeats for both Seaton Town and Offwell Rangers to Silverton and Spreyton respectively.

In Division Eight Millwey Rise Reserves were beaten 10-0 at Topsham Town Reserves.

In the Devon Intermediate Cup, Awliscombe went out of the competition, beaten 4-1 by North Devon-based Hartland Clovelly.


Honiton RFC were 66-14 home winners over Liskeard and Looe. It was a fifth Tribute Cornwall and Devon win in seven outings for the Lacemen who have now chalked up an impressive 356 points in their opening seven games this season, a total that is almost 100 more then the next best tally!
