The big news coming out of Millwey Rise on the second Saturday of October was not that team suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at Alphington, but instead, it was the encouraging news that prolific striker Levi Hoole is back in Rise colours – he made his first appearance for the club in almost two years in the fixture, writes Dick Sturch.

It was Hoole who had the first strike on goal, an early shot going just wide. That was followed minutes later by a shot from Nathan Womersley that glanced off the bar. Rise goalkeeper Brett Garner then made one of his trade mark phenomenal saves to push a goal bound shot around the post following a defensive error.

The home side opened the scoring on 15 minutes, but the Rise response was good and they hit a purple patch! First Sam Turner went just wide after a series of passes out of defence. Hoole then made his presence felt latching on to the end of a slick passing movement only to see his shot pushed around the post for a corner.

He eventually scored after he was put through by Keith Forsey to bring the scores level. Within two minutes Mark Pike, again fed by Forsey, struck and Rise trooped off at half-time with a 2-1 lead.

Five minutes after the break the home side levelled and they edged ahead with a 57th minute penalty. There followed plenty of end-to-end action with goalmouth action at both ends. However, no further goals were forthcoming and Millwey can count themselves unfortunate as a draw would have been a fair conclusion to the game.

Levi Hoole again showed why he is such an asset to the side. Although his match fitness has to improve his strength and determination together with his hunger for goals will bring the wins Millwey are currently looking for.

Keith Forsey and Dave Bridges worked hard in mid field and it was Bridges, who is sponsored this season by Berensnes Solicitors, was named the Man of the Match.

On Saturday (October 20), Feniton Reserves are the visitors to Cloakham Lawns (3pm).
