Honiton made it two wins from two Tribute Cornwall and Devon outings with a 34-12 home win over a Torquay Athletic side that had run out 99-0 winners against Hayle just seven days before.

Honiton, playing down the slope to clubhouse corner, began the game with an intensity and desire the opposition could not match.

Dominating in both attack and defence, Honiton opened the scoring with a second-minute try, under the posts, from Ben Small, and Ben Weber knocked over the conversion.

It took a further 15 minutes for Honiton to breach the line again with Wes Keywood scoring on the left after strong runs from Nathan Hannay and Ben Small.

Soon after, Nathan Hannay barged over from close range after a good break by Ben Small, supported by Robert Price and Will Goulden.

Webber was successful with the conversion and Honiton held a 19-0 lead after 20 minutes of action.

From turnover ball, Hannay scored his second try before Small got his second, supporting Josh Rice, who ran nicely on to another precise pass from Alex Brooks.

Small went over near the posts, giving Webber an easy conversion attempt which he duly accepted and at half-time Honiton had secured a deserved bonus point courtesy of a handsome 31-0 lead.

The second half was a more closely fought encounter with Torquay coming back into the game, maintaining possession for sustained periods but unable to breach the strong Honiton defence.

A Webber penalty made it 34-0 before two tries and a conversion saw Torquay avoid a whitewash!

On the day, Honiton utilised the great home support from the large crowd to seal a five bonus point win for the second successive Saturday and they sit top of the fledgling table.

The Man of the Match award went to Ben Small for his excellent performance both with the ball in hand and what was some robust and industrious defensive work.

We will have to wait a fortnight to see if the Ton can continue their perfect start when they entertain Hayle at Allhallows on Saturday, September 22.
