Sidmouth mixed land fine win over visiting Madeira

PUBLISHED: 09:35 02 November 2018 | UPDATED: 09:35 02 November 2018

There was a midweek home meeting with our very good friends from Exmouth club Madeira, writes Carol Smith.

We played three rinks of ladies’ triples and although played in good spirit we were not very kind with the score!

It all ended in a 17-shot success for Sidmouth at 52-35.

Nevertheless, a most enjoyable morning was had by all involved.

The pick of the Sidmouth rinks was the one of Jackie Godbeer, Chris Hamer and skip Jill Bishop, who recorded an outstanding 22-7 win.

Saturday afternoon saw a visit of a mixed team from Chardstock.

The team sheet changed at least six times for one reason or another – what with half-term holidays, the forthcoming Halloween, men’s county duties – to name but three ‘alternatives’. Not withstanding all that, we managed to field three mixed triples teams and they did ever so well as Sidmouth recorded a 52-36 success.

These weekend matches are always very sociable, stopping for tea halfway (which can alter the scores dramatically!).

Then, post match, we always enjoy a chat and drink in the bar. Some of our members are brilliant at supporting these matches, but it would also be good to see a few more people making themselves available – if only on an occasional basis – please!

The top home rink was the one of Ann Elwood, Karen Hollingdale and skip Jim Wrench, who recorded a simply brilliant 22-7 score line.

The final mixed friendly game of the week was a meeting with Chudleigh.

We did have some very good teams out for this game, and boy did it show, as we secured an overall 74-32 success.

All three of our teams won, but we had two teams that did exceptionally well.

They were the one of Pat Hague, Ann England, Jill Mison and skip Wilf Radburn, who won with a plus 18 score, but that was surpassed by the team of Pam Manning, Chris Radburn and Bert Hague, with plus 19. Well done, everyone.
