Seaton Bowling Club entertained Taunton in a four rink friendly that ended all square in terms of the rinks, but Seaton emerged as 73-63 overall shot winners, writes Alan Nicholas.

The top Seaton rink comprised Peter Barradell, Malcolm Carvell, Peter Greenwood and Di Morley.

Seaton ladies broke new, playing in the opening round of the National Top Club competition for the first time.

Madeira A provided the opposition and the Exmouth side were able to include 100 players who all regularly play for Devon county.

The tournament features disciplines in singles, pairs, triples and a rink. The singles was won by Maria Johnson, who incidentally, gained her County Badge just one week ago, with an excellent score of 21-1.

In the pairs, Sue Dando (who also gained her County Badge the week before) and Ann Joyner lost 21-12.

The triple of: Marian Vessey, Pat Whitworth and Di Morley lost 14-11, but the Seaton rink of Angie Mayhew, Linda Stone, Lillian Hurley-Smith and Joan Miles won 23-20.

All that combined led to a superb overall success for Seaton by 67 shots to 56.

Seaton ladies now head for a second round meeting against either Topsham or Madeira B.
